After Saguaro we drove on to stay in the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. This park is directly on the border to Mexico, and you can feel it. We got into two road blocks where police/immigration officers stop cars and check for illegal immigrants. The situation seems to be so bad, that one of the two loop roads in the national park is closed to the public indefinitely. However, the park is beautiful, and we arrived at the campground just before sunset. There were only two more couples there, and we knew quickly why: It was sooooo hot, even at night. And the campground doesn't have hook-ups, and generators are not allowed after 10pm, which means it is way too hot to sleep... Winter is the main season in this park!
Neil picking the pricks out of his jandals...
these funny creatures ran around the campground early in the morning, making an
awful lot of noise. I like their hair style - very funky!

Our shelter for breakfast. We were the only ones as far as you could see, but as soon as we stopped there, two immigration officers in their 4WD appeared out of nowhere and checked up on us. As soon as they saw we were not Mexicans, the one officer took his hand off his gun and asked some questions in a friendly way, saying they just wanted to check if we are ok - yeah right! I have no idea how they spotted us so quickly, and where they came from!
